One Million Ears

A project of the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling.
LANES members tell their stories all around the world. How many ears hear them?

This is a space for us to record and tally the number of ears in our audiences, whether

it's 2 or 2000.

Let's

see if we can tell to one million ears between Sept. 1 and June 1st, 2010!

Starting on Sept. 1, 2009, all LANES members are invited to submit information about their performances - who, where, when, and the number of ears in the audience. (For a group performance, please only submit once. If you tell a story in a workshop, that co
unts.)
Let your audience know that they're being counted for the One Million Ears project, and that they're welcome to track our progress on the LANES website (www.lanes.org). Photograph an
ear or two, and we'll post those as well! Special mention will be given to folks who can identify their ears.
Information should be sent to Andrea Lovett (love2tell2@aol.com). Please tell us teller(s), date, venue, and number of ears told to. Make sure you identify any photos you atta

Sept 21st a 48 EAR audience attended Seanachie Nights at Bull Feeny’s pub in Portland Maine to witness Pirate Mark Read’s tale of surivial. A special thanks to Lynne Cullen our host for this venue.

Making celebration of "Talk Like A Pirate Day" into a 3 day weekend, Boston storyteller Norah Dooley appeared as pirate Mary Read, telling tales about the people she sailed with in the Golden Age of Piracy, and the wonders of the seven seas.
In the early 1700s, Mary Read disguised herself as a sailor to survive in the harsh world, and became a pirate quite by accident when her ship was overtaken by pirates, and she was captured by the crew of Captain "Calico Jack" Rackham.

Norah told Marys story in the first person, brandishing pistol and sword, and sharing pirate lore, secrets and seafaring stories from her sea bag.

Co-founder of the Maine Organization of Storytelling Enthusiasts (MOOSE) Debb Freedman, Volunteer Moose web volunteer Learnin’ Vernon, and LANES President Joanne Piazza were among the ears listening to Mary’s tales and Lynne’s concertina.

If you are ever in Portland on the third Monday of the month please join us for Seanchie Nights. Visit www.lynnecullen.com for more info.
